Mujawarah for Life and Development – UK, in partnership with the General Cooperative Union of Palestine, hosted a new dialogue session within the “Cooperatives from Palestine” series, spotlighting the experience of the Women Media Pioneers Cooperative – PIONEER, an emerging model in cooperative media based in Hebron. The session was moderated by writer and researcher Nour Hoteit, with speakers Nada Shahin, Chairwoman of the cooperative, and Dr Wafaa Harb, Vice-Chair.

The discussion opened with an examination of the realities shaping the Palestinian media environment—restrictions on movement and access, scarce resources, and the increasing risks faced by journalists, especially women working in the field. Speakers highlighted the role that cooperative structures can play in creating safer, fairer media spaces that give voice to marginalised communities.

Nada Shaheen provided an in-depth overview of the challenges confronting media graduates in Hebron, where opportunities for practical training and employment remain limited. She explained that the cooperative was founded in 2023 precisely to bridge this gap, offering hands-on training and a collaborative space for producing digital content that reflects the stories of women and young people, and promotes more accurate and inclusive local narratives.

Dr Wafaa Harb expanded on the cooperative’s social and economic role, particularly in supporting women from marginalised areas through training in mobile photography, digital marketing, and media campaign management. She also highlighted their work on digital safety, combating cyber-extortion, and responding to gender-based violence online. According to Harb, the cooperative has succeeded in building considerable trust within the community and has supported women facing digital abuse in coordination with specialist organisations.

During the session, Ezzeldeen Abu Taha, Secretary-General of the General Cooperative Union of Palestine, stressed the importance of keeping membership open equally to both women and men, noting that balanced participation lies at the heart of cooperative work. He emphasised that the Women Media Pioneers Cooperative represents an important step in embedding these principles within the media sector.

Shahin also discussed the operational challenges of producing media content in sensitive areas such as Hebron’s Old City, where safety and coordination with local bodies are essential. She outlined the cooperative’s expanding partnerships with organisations such as the Land Research Centre and the Hebron Reconstruction Committee, aimed at extending training programmes to additional women’s cooperatives and youth groups across the West Bank.

In closing, Maree Bashir, founder and director of Mujawarah, affirmed that the experience of the Women Media Pioneers Cooperative offers a powerful example of how Palestinian communities continue to build sustainable, self-driven solutions despite political and economic adversity. He noted that cooperative media models are reshaping local storytelling and strengthening women’s presence in the media through a more participatory and equitable approach.

Through this dialogue, the “Cooperatives from Palestine” initiative continues to provide a platform for Palestinian cooperatives to share their experiences, discuss their challenges, and develop collective strategies that reinforce the role of the social solidarity economy in community resilience and local knowledge production.

نظّمت مؤسسة مجاورة للحياة والتنمية – بريطانيا، بالشراكة مع الاتحاد التعاوني العام في فلسطين، جلسة حوارية جديدة ضمن سلسلة “تعاونيات من فلسطين”، سلطت الضوء على تجربة جمعية رائدات الإعلام التعاونية – PIONEER باعتبارها نموذجًا صاعدًا في الإعلام التعاوني بمحافظة الخليل. أدارت الجلسة الكاتبة والباحثة نور حطيط، وشاركت فيها نداء شاهين رئيسة الجمعية، ود. وفاء حرب نائبة الرئيس.

افتتحت الجلسة بنقاش حول واقع البيئة الإعلامية الفلسطينية التي تتشكّل تحت ضغط القيود المفروضة على الحركة والوصول، إضافة إلى شحّ الموارد والتحديات المهنية التي تواجه الصحفيين—خصوصًا النساء—داخل بيئة عمل قاسية وحساسة. وجرى التأكيد على أهمية النماذج التعاونية في خلق فضاءات إعلامية أكثر عدالة وقدرة على تمثيل الفئات المهمشة.

وخلال الحوار، استعرضت نداء شاهين التحديات التي يواجهها خريجو الإعلام في الخليل، حيث يفتقر القطاع إلى التدريب العملي وفرص العمل، ما دفع إلى تأسيس التعاونية عام 2023 لتكون مساحة تدريب وتمكين وإنتاج محتوى رقمي يعكس قصص النساء والشباب ويقدّم سردًا محليًا بديلًا ودقيقًا. وأوضحت شاهين أن الجمعية تسعى إلى بناء هوية إعلامية تعتمد على التعلم بالممارسة وعلى التعاون بين الأعضاء بدل الفردية.

كما تناولت د. وفاء حرب الدور الاجتماعي والاقتصادي للجمعية في دعم النساء داخل المناطق المهمشة عبر التدريب على التصوير بالهاتف، والتسويق الرقمي، وإدارة الحملات الإعلامية، إلى جانب عملها في مجال الحماية الرقمية ومكافحة الابتزاز الإلكتروني والعنف القائم على النوع الاجتماعي. وأكدت أن التعاونية نجحت في بناء ثقة واسعة داخل المجتمع، وقدمت دعمًا مباشرًا لنساء تعرضن لانتهاكات رقمية بالتعاون مع مؤسسات مختصة.

وشهدت الجلسة مداخلة من عز الدين أبو طه، الأمين العام للاتحاد التعاوني العام في فلسطين، الذي شدّد على ضرورة أن تبقى العضوية في التعاونيات مفتوحة بالتساوي للرجال والنساء، باعتبار أن المشاركة المشتركة جوهر العمل التعاوني وروحه الأساسية. وأكد أن نموذج جمعية رائدات الإعلام يُعد خطوة مهمة في ترسيخ هذا المبدأ داخل الحقل الإعلامي.

كما ناقشت شاهين التحديات المتعلقة بتنفيذ مشاريع إعلامية في مناطق حساسة مثل البلدة القديمة في الخليل، وما يتطلبه ذلك من تنسيق دائم لضمان سلامة الفرق الميدانية. وتطرقت إلى الشراكات القائمة مع مؤسسات محلية مثل مركز أبحاث الأراضي ولجنة إعادة الإعمار، بهدف توسيع برامج التدريب لتصل إلى تعاونيات نسائية ومجموعات شبابية أخرى في الضفة الغربية.

وفي ختام الجلسة، أكّد مرعي بشير، مؤسس ومدير مؤسسة مجاورة، أن تجربة جمعية رائدات الإعلام التعاونية تُعد مثالًا حيًا على قدرة المجتمعات الفلسطينية على تطوير حلول ذاتية ومستدامة رغم التحديات السياسية والاقتصادية. واعتبر أن الإعلام التعاوني يُسهم في إعادة تشكيل السرديات المحلية وتعزيز حضور النساء في المجال الإعلامي ضمن إطار تشاركي وعادل.

وتواصل مبادرة “تعاونيات من فلسطين” من خلال هذه الجلسات تقديم منصة مفتوحة للتعاونيات الفلسطينية كي تعرض تجاربها، وتناقش تحدياتها، وتطور رؤى مشتركة تعزز من دور الاقتصاد الاجتماعي في الصمود المجتمعي وإنتاج المعرفة المحلية.
