Mujawarah for Life and Development – UK, in partnership with the General Cooperative Union in Palestine, organised a dialogue session as part of the “Cooperatives from Palestine” forum, featuring the Beizariya Cooperative Association for Mutual Benefit as a model of rural women’s cooperatives in the West Bank. The session took place on Sunday, 16 November 2025, and was moderated by writer and researcher Nour Hoteit, with the participation of the association’s chairwoman Murahfa Hussein and director Nawal Qadi.

Speakers outlined how the cooperative emerged during the Second Intifada in the village of Beizariya, northwest of Nablus, when movement restrictions and the difficulty of reaching nearby cities prompted women to establish a small cooperative shop to provide essential goods and market their homemade products. The initiative later formalised into a registered cooperative, which has grown to 110 women members and relies primarily on their own financial contributions.

The discussion highlighted the cooperative’s key projects, including the expansion of the community shop and the launch of a beekeeping project, which began with 20 hives and became a source of income for several women. The cooperative also established a savings and loan fund, which has provided around 70 small loans for home-based agriculture, sheep fattening, rainwater harvesting wells, and individual beekeeping initiatives. These projects have helped improve women’s incomes and strengthened their role in household and community decision-making.

Speakers also reflected on the social changes brought about by the cooperative in a traditionally conservative rural setting. Over time, community attitudes towards women’s work shifted, and the cooperative became a space for gathering, learning, and mutual support for women across the village.

The session addressed current challenges, particularly the need for a permanent premises after the end of the cooperative’s long-term rental, as well as administrative and financial obstacles linked to banking procedures and bureaucratic requirements.

The dialogue concluded by emphasising the significance of Beizariya’s experience as a practical model for women’s cooperatives in Palestinian rural areas, and the importance of strengthening networks and support to ensure the sustainability and expansion of such initiatives.

نظّمت مؤسسة مجاورة للحياة والتنمية – المملكة المتحدة، بالشراكة مع الاتحاد التعاوني العام في فلسطين، جلسة حوارية ضمن منتدى “تعاونيات من فلسطين” استضافت فيها جمعية بزاريا التعاونية للمنفعة المتبادلة كنموذج للتعاونيات النسائية الريفية في الضفة الغربية. عُقدت الجلسة يوم الأحد 16 تشرين الثاني/نوفمبر 2025، وأدارتها الكاتبة والباحثة نور حطيط بمشاركة رئيسة الجمعية مرهفة حسين ومديرتها نوال قاضي.

استعرضت المتحدثات ظروف نشوء الجمعية خلال الانتفاضة الثانية في قرية بزاريا شمال غرب نابلس، حيث دفعت القيود على الحركة وصعوبة الوصول إلى المدن النساء إلى إنشاء متجر تعاوني صغير لتأمين احتياجات الأهالي وتسويق المنتجات المنزلية. ولاحقًا، جرى تسجيل الجمعية كتعاونية رسمية تطورت لتضم 110 عضوات وتعتمد في تمويلها على المساهمات الذاتية.

وخلال الحوار، تطرقت المشاركات إلى أبرز مشاريع الجمعية، ومنها تطوير المتجر التعاوني، وإطلاق مشروع تربية النحل الذي بدأ بـ20 خلية وأصبح مصدر دخل لعدد من النساء، إضافة إلى تأسيس صندوق التوفير والتسليف الذي قدّم حوالي 70 قرضًا لإنشاء مشاريع صغيرة في الزراعة المنزلية وتسمين الخراف وبناء آبار المياه وتربية النحل. وأسهمت هذه المشاريع في تحسين دخل النساء وتعزيز استقلاليتهن داخل الأسرة والمجتمع.

كما تناولت الجلسة التحولات الاجتماعية التي رافقت هذه التجربة داخل مجتمع ريفي محافظ، حيث تغيّرت النظرة تجاه خروج النساء للعمل تدريجيًا، وأصبحت الجمعية مساحة للتجمع والتعلم والدعم لنساء القرية عمومًا.

وعرضت المتحدثات أبرز التحديات الراهنة، وعلى رأسها ضرورة إيجاد مقر دائم للجمعية بعد انتهاء عقد الإيجار، إلى جانب صعوبات إدارية ومالية مرتبطة بالإجراءات البنكية والبيروقراطية الرسمية.

واختُتمت الجلسة بالتأكيد على أهمية تجربة بزاريا بوصفها نموذجًا عمليًا للتعاونيات النسائية في القرى الفلسطينية، وضرورة تعزيز التشبيك والدعم لضمان استدامة المبادرات التعاونية وتوسيع أثرها.
